It is now commonly accepted that aerobic exercise, without some weight training, is insufficient for maintaining an optimum level of fitness. Therefore weight training is no longer optional, if we are serious about total body health.

The good news is that weight training can be incorporated into our lives rather easily and the following list of benefits is here to encourage you to do so.

You Can Do it at Home
There now exists a great variety of portable weight training equipment, beginning with the simplest type: free weights. Wide availability and low cost allow virtually everyone to set up an effective weight training program at home.

You Will Have More Energy
Even if you're starting out with a few basic weight lifting exercises, you will soon find yourself in possession of new energy. Increased muscle strength will enable you to get through your daily physical activities with greater ease.

You Can Eliminate Certain Kinds of Pain
Weight training increases the strength of your joints. Stronger joints facilitate ease of movement. Regular weight training can help you to eliminate those odd joint pains and enable you to move with greater comfort and endurance.

You Will Improve Your Insulin Metabolism
Problems with Insulin metabolism cause a host of problems called Syndrome X or Metabolic Syndrome. Insulin resistance in cells- due to lack of exercise and poor diet, over a long period of time, can lead to high Insulin secretion, high blood pressure, obesity and blood fat abnormalities. Weight training improves Insulin sensitivity in cells, thereby reducing the risk of Syndrome X.

You Will Have Stronger Bones
Bones respond to weightlifting the same way that muscles do, by becoming stronger and denser. Building stronger bones is the best defence against osteoporosis.
