The purpose of
weight training is increasing muscle size and
strength. Quite naturally, weight training
burns calories, thus enabling you to loose the excess
adipose tissue. Adipose is the medical term for the
more colloquial word, fat.
As you replace the
extra adipose tissue with muscle, through regular
weight training, your basal metabolic rate will
increase by about 15%. This is because muscle is
metabolically active and burns more calories than
other body tissues even when you’re not moving.
Basal metabolic rate refers to the amount of
calories the body burns at rest.
Training with
weights just 3 times a week, for around 20 minutes,
is enough to build muscle. Not only will you be
burning more calories, you’ll look better – whatever
your weight.
