If you are serious about loosing the pounds created
by binge eating and about living longer, then to
become a vegetarian is the best dietary change you
can make.
Vegetarians are at a distinct advantage where body
weight is concerned. They are leaner and have
remarkably lower rates of obesity than the general
population. And while vegetarian diet cannot
guarantee a leaner physique, it can make the goal of
acquiring one considerably easier.
Vegetarians tend to be thinner because they consume
less fat, particularly saturated fat, and more
fibre. Fibre adds bulk to our diet and gives us a
feeling of fullness, without adding calories. It
also helps to speed food through the digestive
system, thus decreasing the absorption of calories.
When
it comes to fat, some studies have demonstrated that
polyunsaturated fat actually increases the body's
metabolic rate. And increased metabolism would
certainly help us with reducing the amount of excess
weight. In comparison, the body tends to just store
saturated fat. Saturated fat also causes high levels
of cholesterol in the blood stream which, if not
controlled, will clog up our arteries.
The
above basically means that nuts are better for us
than butter while fruits, whole grains and
vegetables are better than meat. The following
section expands this basic summary of a vegetarian
diet.
