Becoming vegetarian without monitoring caloric and nutritional intake as well as exercising regularly, will not counteract the effects of binge eating or enable you to loose weight. It is quite possible to binge on vegetarian selections of food: chocolate, ice-cream, pizza and deserts of various kinds, to name just a few.

Therefore it is still important to keep in mind that the causes of binge eating are genetic, some people have naturally low metabolic rates; emotional, when we use food to cope with our feelings; and social, when our cultural framework influences us into unhealthy food choices.

Vegetarian or not, it is important to follow a few simple rules in order to maintain a steady course toward a healthier you, both physically and emotionally.

Eat a Variety of Foods Listed in the Vegetarian Food Groups
Variety helps to ensure sufficient nutrients, phytochemicals and fibre. It also makes our meals more interesting.

Monitor Intake of Concentrated Fats, Oils and Added Sugar
These are generally high high in calories, but poor sources of nutrients. Fats and sugar can crowd out foods of higher nutritional value.

Aim For an Hour of Physical Activity Every Day
Regular exercise will help you to loose weight, detoxify your body and give you more energy.

Drink Six to Eight Glasses of Water Each Day
Water is essential to good health. Given the high amounts of food additives and toxins that our bodies have to eliminate each day, adequate supply of fluids is critical for maintaining our bodies.

Maintain Your Emotional Health
Without positive emotional energy it is impossible to keep ourselves on a healthy path. Because our consumption oriented environment constantly attempts to persuade us into wrong nutritional choices and give us a set of inactive habits, emotional stability is critical to staying healthy. We have to be able to get ourselves moving toward choices that support our well being, even if everyone else around us is determined to go in the direction of sedentary consumption. Regular emotional coaching will assist you with maintaining your emotional balance.
